Wind Gong style (above) and Chao Gong style (below)
|
Gongs Powerful, haunting, mysterious or explosive -- our gongs are the perfect contrast and compliment to the sound of the Taiko. We stock two styles of traditional bronze hand turned and hand hammered gongs imported from Wuhan, China. Wuhan has been famous for the production of gongs for over 300 years. Wind Gongs produce a deep attack with a cacophony of overtones. A skirtless gong with both brilliant and dark harmonics and a long sound decay. Chao Gongs are heavier and thicker than wind gongs and have a small skirt which helps to define the tone. The sound is rich, dark and wet with a sustain that can last minutes. In general for either style, the larger the gong the deeper the tone. A mallet is included with each gong. A pure and beautiful addition to any Taiko ensemble. Wind Gongs
